In English our main text this half term will be ‘The Lorax’. We will be focusing on sentence structure, punctuation and spelling as well as continuing to work on our handwriting skills.
This half term we will begin to look at 2D and 3D shapes. We will be learning to recognise and name these shapes and talk about their properties. We will also be looking for real life examples of shapes in our environment.
This half term we will continue to learn about materials. Previously, we distinguished the difference between objects and the material it is made from. We will continue to expand on identifying materials and talking about their suitability for objects using our knowledge of their properties. We will also begin to investigate how the shape of solid objects made from materials can be changed.
In R.E this half term we will be looking at religious festivals, including Easter.
PE will be on a Wednesday and Friday. Taekondo will be on Thursday.
Your PE kit needs to have: pumps/trainers, black shorts, white t-shirts. Please can you bring them in school every day.
In history we will be looking at significant people from our local area. We will delve into the works and life of L.S Lowry.
Art and D.T
In Art this half term, we will be focusing on the work of L.S Lowry. We will be experiencing our own L.S Lowry workshop where we will look at the detail of his work and sketching portraits using the techniques of Lowry.
Children will receive a spelling sheet every week to help build on what they have learnt in school. These are key words that they need to be able to read and write by the end of year one.
Reading at home
Please make sure to read with your child each night and make a comment/sign in their reading record as this is monitored. Regular reading will greatly support your child especially in their phonics ability! We really appreciate your engagement with this.
- Our school day starts at 8.45am. Children will come into the classroom on their own, and they can be collected outside the classroom door at 3.15pm
- Staying hydrated helps us to learn so please make sure that your child has a water bottle in school with them everyday.
- Could we also ask that you make sure your child has their name in their uniforms and PE kits to avoid any confusion if they take their jumpers off.
- Make sure you remember to read every night.
If you have any questions or queries we are always around at the end of the day to have a quick chat or feel free to contact the office to make an appointment!
