During the current national lockdown, we are offering the children learning from home, a combination of "live lessons" taught through zoom, with follow-up activities to be completed on Tapestry. As well as this, we are also providing video lessons which are uploaded to Tapestry weekly, included is a Literacy and Maths lesson as well as a wider curriculum area in order to maintain a broad and balanced curriculum at this difficult time.

We ask that parents support their children to complete the Tapestry activities each week and respond to the activities with a comment, photograph or video so that staff may view and respond to your child's learning. We also ask that, where possible, children attend the three zoom sessions scheduled across the week and respond to the follow-up activities to consolidate your child's learning. Paper work packs will be sent home to accommodate some of these activities and also provide you with a range of resources and learning experiences. We are also sending out links to other educational websites and apps such as daily Read, Write, Inc (RWI) lessons and GetEpic reading.

We would like to thank you for your support at this time. Please stay safe and keep learning! We look forward to seeing you soon.

Tapestry is an online learning journal that documents a very special record of a child’s experiences, development and learning journey through their early years. Using photos, videos and diary entries, Tapestry ‘weaves’ the story of your child and how they are growing and developing. Parents are able to view online their child’s progress and how much fun they’re having,  whilst also uploading their own comments and media.

If you can not access Tapestry please give your child’s class teacher your email address to activate your account.

We will upload weekly Literacy, Maths and a wider curriculum activity every week. Zoom follow-up activities will be added after the live Zoom session with the class teacher.

We will also use Tapestry as a platform for supporting children learning at home by communicating with parents, sending key messages and sharing children's learning.

Please respond the activities with a comment, photograph or video so that we may share in your child's home learning journey. Please use the crib sheet below to guide you through uploading an observation to your child's account.

Reading and Red Words

Please continue to read daily with your child. This can be a book selected from school or your home library. Support children to apply their phonic knowledge by saying letter sounds and blending those sounds together to read a word. Also continue reading for pleasure and reading stories to your child.

Practice reading sight words daily. These are the tricky words children cannot use their phonics to sound out, they learn them by sight. Children learn best by repeated exposure to the words, by seeing them and saying them and playing games. Red word videos have been uploaded to Tapestry. Below is also the Red Words we teach in school.

Read Write Inc (RWI) is a phonics based programme which helps children learn to read whilst also developing a wide range of vocabulary and encouraging a love of stories. It was developed by Ruth Miskin. In Reception, children will be taught a sound a day. RWI are providing video lessons each day on YouTube that are free to access for 24 hours. Please see the RWI schedule below. Children in Reception should access Set 1 sounds and words.
