SMSC

At Lark Hill Community Primary School, we recognise that the personal development of pupils, spiritually, morally, socially and culturally (SMSC) plays a significant part in their ability to learn and achieve.

We therefore aim to provide an education that provides children with opportunities to explore and develop their own values and beliefs, spiritual awareness, high standards of personal behaviour, a positive caring attitude towards other people, an understanding of their social and cultural traditions and an appreciation of the diversity and richness of other cultures. This is embedded throughout all aspects of school life.

British Values

At Lark Hill we aim to prepare children for life in modern Britain by promoting the core British Values which are: democracy, rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs.

We appreciate the diversity we have at Lark Hill and respect and celebrate our differences and individuality. We aim to broaden our awareness and understanding of different faiths, cultures and lifestyles and promote respect to all individuals that form our amazing school community.

The Department for Education states that there is a need “to create and enforce a clear and rigorous expectation on all schools to promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.”

British Values are promoted in much of what we do, through our school values, assemblies and across our curriculum including Religious Education (RE) and Personal, Health and Social Education (PSHE). The values are integral to our aims where every child within the school is seen as an individual with something unique and positive to offer to the wider community.
