Design and Technology
Design and Technology at Lark Hill
The National Curriculum states:
"Design and technology is an inspiring, rigorous and practical subject....High-quality design and technology education makes an essential contribution to the creativity, culture, wealth and well-being of the nation."
At Lark Hill, we know that our children are the designers, innovators, engineers and inventors of tomorrow. We want our children to design and create real life objects that solve problems using their creativity and imagination. Pupils design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values. They acquire a broad range of subject knowledge and draw on disciplines such as mathematics, science, engineering, computing and art.
We don't simply want children who can follow instructions to achieve an end product, but pupils who are willing to take risks, becoming resourceful, innovative, enterprising and capable citizens. We want our designers to be brave and not to be afraid of making mistakes. Our children should see experimenting and making mistakes as another way of learning, without fear of failure. The process of experimenting, evaluating and improving their ideas should support their growing resilience and support a growth mindset attitude to their learning. Through the evaluation of past and present design and technology, they develop a critical understanding of its impact on daily life and the wider world.
