At Lark Hill we celebrate diversity of both culture and experience. Learning a language opens up our pupils to different cultures from around the world, helping them to both understand and be understood in another language.
Modern Foreign Languages at Lark Hill
We provide high-quality languages education that foster pupils’ curiosity and deepen their understanding of the world. Through our curriculum we ensure that all pupils understand and respond to spoken and written language from a variety of authentic sources. Our Modern Foreign Languages Curriculum will encourage children to speak with increasing confidence, fluency and spontaneity, finding ways of communicating what they want to say, including through discussion and asking questions, and continually improving the accuracy of their pronunciation and intonation.
Through the study of the Spanish language, our pupils are enabled to express their ideas and thoughts and understand and respond to its speakers, both in speech and in writing. It also provides opportunities for them to communicate for practical purposes, learning new ways of thinking and to read great literature in the original language.
Children will be able to write at varying lengths, for different purposes and audiences, using the variety of grammatical structures that they have learnt. Finally, we feel that through our teaching of Modern Foreign Languages, our pupils at Lark Hill will discover and develop an appreciation of a range of writing in the language studied.
At Lark Hill, the teaching of language provides the foundation for learning further languages, equipping pupils to study and work in other countries.
