A message from your teachers!
Reading at home
In Year 2, it is important that you read with your child at least 3 times a week and sign their reading record. Children must have it signed to gain their sticker for the sticker chart. Children who read 5 times a week can earn 2 stickers towards a reading reward. A member of the Year 2 team will check reading records daily, so please ensure that reading records are returned to school each morning.
Children will be given spellings to learn each Monday, spellings should be practised at home each night ready for a spelling test the following Monday. Children who get full marks on the test will receive a celebratory certificate to bring home.
In Year 2, children are beginning to learn their multiplication table facts for 2, 5, 10 and 3. Please support your child in regularly accessing ttrockstars and numbots to help develop their number fluency. If you need support logging in, please speak to a member of the team.
Our P.E. day is Thursday.
A gentle reminder that our school P.E. kit is a plain white t-shirt, black shorts and black pumps or trainers for outdoor sports, without visible branding.
Water bottles and snacks
Don't forget to bring a water bottle to school each day - it is important for children to stay hydrated throughout the day. Please label bottles and refill them each day.
Children are welcome to bring a healthy snack such as fruit and vegetables to school each day for snack time, but are also offered a piece of fruit from school each day. Bread sticks and milk can be purchased at the start of each half-term (please speak to the school office about this.)
Position and Direction (3 weeks)
Problem soling and efficient methods (2 weeks)
Time (2 week)
Our focus this half term is position and direction, using efficient methods to solve problems and learning to tell the time. The small steps to success can be found on the Maths curriculum page.
Our shared reading text in class for this half term is the BFG.
We will be exploring this text through daily reading practise and will answer comprehension questions on a Friday to ensure we have fully understood what has been read. Why don't you ask me to keep you up to date with what is happening to the characters in the story each week?
In writing, we are focusing on the key skills of using of adjectives to build expanded noun phrases to clearly and accurately describe. We will develop our use of subordinating and coordinating conjunctions to link ideas in a sentence.
We continue to think about handwriting and presentation, full stops and capital letters, and other examples of punctuation such questions marks, exclamation marks, commas in a list and apostrophes in conjunctions. We always read our sentences back to check they make sense.
Our science focus this half term is Plants.
We will be learning to recognise a range of common plants and garden plants including deciduous and evergreen. we will be learning about the basic parts of flowering plants such as the roots, stem, flower and leaves.
This term in RE, we are learning about Islam and significant stories in the Muslim faith. We have discussed what they mean to Muslims, and compared them to other stories that we might know with a similar message.
In P.H.S.E. we are celebrating our differences this term! We are thinking about how we are all the same and how we are all different. We are celebrating what makes us unique!
