As part of our 'Wriggle and Crawl Topic', Year 2 have been making animated Life Cycle videos in class.
Please click 'play' to enjoy them.
As you may know from the newsletter, or your excited child, we will be having some visitors into school. The Creepy Crawly Show will be coming into school on Tuesday 27th June. They will be bringing a range of fascinating minibeasts and the children will
have an opportunity to hold and handle some of their creatures. This is great opportunity for the children to have a real life experience of some of the insects and creepy crawlies they have been learning about.
The cost per child will be £3.50 and can be paid through parentpay. The children really enjoyed this last year and we would appreciate your support to ensure we are able to go ahead with the activity. Unfortunately, if we don’t have enough payments,
we will not be able to fund the activity.
Please see the office if you need a paypoint letter.
Thank you for your continued support,
Year 2 team.
Chris Gilbert came into school to work with year 2 children because we were doing the 'Scented Garden Topic'. We looked at the work of Artist Georgia O'Keeffe then produced pictures in oil, pastel and chalk in her style.
Year 2 have been sorting and classifying items according to their materials and properties.
Pirate Ship Race
Year 2 have been investigating floating and sinking. We tested different materials to decide what would make the best pirate ship. One we had made our ships, we raced them for chocolate doubloons.

Pictures from Year 2 educational visit to the Lowry to learn about a significant figure in our local area. We looked at his art, and were taught how to use Lowry techniques to draw and paint landscapes and portraits in the style of Lowry.
Hello and welcome to year 2.
We are your teachers this year - Mrs Marron, Mrs Buckley and Mrs Webster.
Year 2 is a very busy year as we will be getting better at working on our own and we will be reading and writing more than we did in Year 1. In maths, we will be learning number facts such as times tables, using numbers up to 100 and beyond, and also solving problems using our maths skills.
There will be lots to learn during our topics. We will be learning about beach creatures, pirates, castles, plants, mini beasts and we will be street detectives in our local area. We will do lots of practical work including lots of different science investigations.
Year 2 is an important year, as it is the end of Key stage 1. All throughout the year, I will be working with you and watching carefully to see how much you improve in your literacy and numeracy. At the end of the year, we will do some special tests so I can tell your parents just how clever you all are. You will be tested in reading, spelling and grammar and maths.
We hope that you keep checking back and following all our news as the year progresses.
Year 2, year 6 and the children from the Butterfly Room visited the Cenotaph to help mark (with a 2 minutes silence) a multi-faith act of remembrance for all those affected by World War and Conflict.
This week, there was a mystery mixture in class that caused an exploding volcano. We had to use our senses and what we could work out about the mixture to make a prediction about what might be in it. We knew it was a red liquid with an unpleasant smell.
Next we tested different liquids that we found in class to see if our predictions were right. We gave each reaction a mark out of ten to say if we thought it was the right mixture. We assessed our prediction against our conclusion to say if we were right or wrong.
Badger and Blunderbuss came to school to help us learn about being pirates. We sang shanties and acted out every day pirate activities. We also got to handle different pirate artefacts like a blunderbuss, some sea biscuits and herbs to fight disease. People who were brave enough, got to eat some lime to help us avoid getting scurvy!
In science, we have been learning about floating and sinking. We used different plasticine shapes to see if they would float or sink. We then tried to make our own boats shapes that would sink.
