Hello. Welcome to Year 1. We are your Classteachers - Miss Rycroft, Miss Cropper and Miss Madden
Year 1 is an exciting year as we start our work on the National Curriculum. We will start the year with short, focussed sessions where we will begin our work on reading and writing along with a practical led curriculum.
There's lots to do this year as we start on our topics, some of which are; of Memory Box, Splendid Skies, Dinosaur Planet, Moon Zoom! Bright Lights, Big City and Paws, Claws and Whiskers.
We will also be practising our phonics every day in small groups and learning lots of new sounds. We have to take a special Prime Minister’s phonics test at the end of the year to see how well we have learnt all the sounds!
We hope that you all enjoy keeping up with all the events and news from our year together. Keep reading!
The Year One children had a special visitor in school all the way from London. To celebrate the Queen’s visit we had a Royal Tea Party. The children (and staff) came dressed in fancy clothes and ate sandwiches and sipped tea. We asked the Queen lots of questions and had our photograph taken with her. We hope to see her again soon as her visit was very special.
On Internet safety day the children in 1W replied to an unkind message sent to them by ‘Silly Billy’. We wrote our ideas on whiteboards then typed an email using the IPads. Silly Billy sent us an email back apologising. Well done 1W.
Year One took part in a ‘Life Long Ago’ workshop where they had the opportunity to talk about and dig for fossils. The children had a fantastic time learning dinosaur names, where they came from and about the dinosaur fossils. We were shocked at how big a dinosaur egg was and we loved the dinosaur skull!
